Last week, in an order issued, the
Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked for details of the FIRs registered
against all serving Police Officers in the State of Punjab including their
nature.
The Single Bench of Justice
Anupinder Singh Grewal also asked the State, through its Home Secretary,
to also inform on the current posting of such Officers.
The Court was dealing with the plea
of a petitioner who contended that the order dismissing him from the service
has been passed by Senior Superintendent of Police without taking into
consideration the order passed by the Inspector General of Policen
whereby he had been reinstated in service after registration of FIR
against him.
During the hearing, the Learned
Counsel of the petitioner contended that the Criminal Case against the
petitioner was pending adjudication and the removal of the petitioner was
discriminatory in as much as a large number of Police Officers, who are
facing Criminal Cases and are still in service.
On this note, the Court issued the
above stated Notice to the respondents. On the request of Deepali Puri, Addl.
AG, Punjab accepted Notice on behalf of the respondents and prayed for time to
file reply.

The Court allowed her
time before the next date of hearing with an advance copy to Counsel for
the petitioner.
It may be noted that Court just on
Tuesday (8th Sept) dismissed the Anticipatory bail
application (filed under S. 438 of CrPC) of Punjab's former Director
General of Police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini in the three-decade-old Multani
kidnapping and murder case.
The present matter has been posted
for 9th Oct, 2020 for further hearing.
