HC dismisses the plea against telecast of Web Series “Paatal Lok” [Read Order]

The Allahabad High Court has dismissed the Public Interest Litigation Filed before the court for the issuance of appropriate order to stop telecasting of web series “Paatal Lok”. The Division Bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Siddhartha Varma while dismissing such petition for censorship of web series ‘Paatal Lok’ directed the petitioner to approach the competent authority of the Government of India.

“Having considered the nature of the relief claimed, we deem it appropriate to keep it open for the petitioner to agitate his cause before the competent authority of the Government of India. The writ hence is disposed of by giving liberty to the petitioner to approach the competent authority for redressal of his grievance.” Said by the Court. Advocate Sangeeta Gupta (Petitioner) has submitted before the court that web series is offending to the principles of "Suntan Dharm" and is also in violation of fundamental rights enshrined under Articles 25 and 26 of the Constitution of India.
