Special NDPS Court in Mumbai granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty's brother Showik Chakraborty on Wednesday. Showik, 24, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drugs-related case on September 4, as part of the investigations into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput almost six months ago.
Special NDPS Judge GB Gurao has granted bail to Showik who has been in jail for almost three months, on a personal bond of Rs.50,000.

NCB had booked both Showik and his sister under Section 27 (A) of the NDPS ACT for harboring an offender, i.e., not disclosing the fact that Rajput had been consuming drugs.
Showik was booked 7under Section 8(c) read with Sections 20(b)(ii),22,27A,28,29 and 30 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Showik Through his lawyer Satish Maneshinde, had applied for bail-in November which was rejected by the Special Court, but in his second appeal, he had cited a recent Supreme Court verdict (Tofan Singh Vs State Of Tamil) which stated that statements to the NCB officers are not admissible as evidence.
Showik's bail plea read, "The Supreme Court, in its recent order rightly held that the officers who are invested with powers under section NDPS Act (pertaining to the current case) are police officers within the meaning of Section 25 of the Evidence Act. As a result, any confessional statement made to them cannot be taken into account in order to convict an accused under the NDPS Act.
