On Friday, Former Madras High Court Judge, CS Karnan has filed a bail petition in the High Court on the grounds of his medical conditions.
Justice Karnan who was arrested nearly a month ago for allegedly uploading videos with derogatory content with rewgard to women and the judiciary has now appealed for bail in cases registered against him.
Before moving to High Court, his bail petition has been rejected by the Metropolitan Magistrate and the Sessions Court, Chennai.

In the petition, he has submitted before the High Court that he hasn't released any video containing obscene or vulgar language after he made an undertaking to refrain from any such conduct to the Police, who had summoned him under Section 41A, of the CrPC prior to his eventual arrest.
Further he has also highlighted his Medical conditions and that he is suffering from severe depression and disturbance following his retirement and the incarceration he underwent earlier. All this has led to him behaving "in an improper manner", he stated. He described that he experienced unstable mental condition and underwent "severe trauma".

Such state had deprived him of due application of mind and realization of the consequences of his action, he said in the plea. He also informed the Court about his medical-treatment at the Stanley Hospital for age-related health issues, including COVID-19 post his arrest.
He thus has urged the High Court to grant him bail while making an undertaking for his co-operation to the Police in investigation to abide by any condition that the Court may impose.
Justice Karnan has been under arrest now for a month after his repeated fall out to comply with the Court's order. Last year, three FIRs were registered against him over derogatory remarks allegedly made by him against women and the judiciary in videos uploaded online.

Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry took note of the incident and initiated Writ proceedings seeking against him. Following this, the High Court passed orders directing the blocking of remarks made by Karnan from Social Media on November 10 and asked him to refrain from doing so again. Later, a petition again been filed High Court mentioning how he is not abiding by the Court's order and still making objectionable statements. With the High Court monitoring the case, Police eventually arrested him.
The Court shall take up the plea next Monday.
