| Bombay High Court to continue hearing urgent cases virtually till May 7 |
In a meeting held on Friday, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Dipankar Datta and other judges of the administrative committee have decided to continue hearing cases virtually till May 7, 2021. This decision comes in the wake of Maharashtra going under lockdown due to spike in Covid-19 cases.
The committee has also decides that Division Benches at the Principal Seat will sit two days a week - Tuesday and Thursday- while Single Judge benches will sit three days a week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The benches will sit for four hours every day and will be hearing only urgent cases which will be listed. Although physical filing of cases is permitted, hearing will be virtual.

A decision was also taken for district and magistrate courts in Maharashtra, which will now work in only one shift. The courts are also required to list only urgent cases, and no adverse order can be passed in any case where lawyers fail to appear.
The arrangement will take effect from April 19 and will continue till May 7, 2021. A standard operating procedure to that effect will be put up by the court administration.
A separate Full Bench of the Court is also likely to take a decision for extension of all interim orders.
The Bombay High Court had previously extended the life of interim orders pertaining to eviction or demolition or dispossession passed by courts in Maharashtra till January 31, 2021, and clarified it need not be extended beyond January 31.

The Bombay High Court had last week decided to opt for hearing through video conferencing, and mix it with hybrid hearing.
