In an appeal to Established Advocates, Senior Advocates, Law Firms, Rajiv Khosla-Chief Coordinator, BCD Covid Relief asked for generous donation to aid Advocates-in-Need in this dire time of Covid-19 pandemic.
In his message, he gave detailed insight of BCD's programme helping Advocates and urged the legal fraternity to come collectively for the cause.

"The pandemic has forced the closure of Courts since middle of March 2020 and since then, there is practically no work for most of Lawyers. The new entrants who joined legal profession as their career are sitting idle.The Judiciary as well as the Govt have closed their eyes towards the plight of Lawyers who are struggling hard on their small savings and have minimised even their basic requirements. The Judiciary is not ready to divert some amount from its large budget towards the care and well being of the Advocates despite the fact that we are part and parcel of the Judicial system and have been conferred with the status of officer of court. It is shocking that the judiciary has not given any financial help to the legal fraternity despite having budget of several hundred crores with it in the shape of State and National legal aid sevices, renovation of existing building and construction of new Court complex and other non urgent expenditure. Today, the majority of Lawyers are in great financial difficulties, but then who is there to think of them? So much so, even the case filed by the BCI for grant of loan of Rs 3/lac @4% interst for 4-5 years under Sec13:of disaster management act is eating dust in the Solicitor General office for last over 8 months, for evolving mechanism to grant loan to all needy Lawyers and unfortunately BCI and State Bar Councils are not able to get the process expedited."
He further went onto say:

"The BCD, considering no help from any corner to our fraternity, decided to give Rs15000/ to home quarantine and Rs 50000/ for hospitalisation and is continuing with the said scheme..The BCD, considering the grave financial strain on a section of lawyers decided to give a very small help on monthly basis to needy Advocates in the shape of ration Kit..The said scheme to some of our colleagues may not look good but the fact is that due to lockdown of the courts for more than one year, the Advocates who due to their pride cannot ask help from anyone are really in a bad condition, as such the BCD will send their ration kit in the most respectable way without being noticed by anyone, but then there may be some extreme cases which require some financial help as well and therefore the BCD has decided to raise funds under a special head for distribution of same to the most deserving cases. The amount so given is exempted under the provisions of of Income Tax act. The BCD thus appeals to Senior Designated Advocates / Law Firms, as well all other well established lawyers to come forward and donate generously to help their colleagues in distress."
He inforned that a Special Account to collect the coming dination money shall be created soon and updtae will be present on BCD Portal.
"The pandemic account will be opened soon and information in respect of same will be provided on the BCD portal. Please note that this is life time opportunity to serve our own people in distress and to bring confidence in them that they are not alone at this most difficult time of their lives and are being taken care by the stalwarts of the legal fraternity. The contribution made by individuals shall be displayed on the website of the Bar Council. A substantial amount for the said cause shall also be contributed by the members of the Bar Council of Delhi. So please donate generously."
