Amidst the tussle between revenue officials & lawyers, the BCI has alleged that the quarrel between Lawyers & Tehsil Office Staff in Raigarh was over alleged corrupt practices prevailing in the revenue office.
The Bar Council of India has demanded the withdrawal of cases registered against the lawyers.
In a letter to the Director-General of state Police Ashok Juneja, BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra demanded immediate withdrawal of “false cases” registered against lawyers in Raigarh saying that lawyers, when opposed the malpractices, were manhandled & this resulted in some false cases lodged against the Lawyers. He alleged that the staff of the tehsil office, who manhandled the lawyers, later went on a strike & closed their office.
The BCI letter alleged that there were many complaints regarding malpractices prevailing in tehsil offices in the state.
Saying that lawyers throughout the state are agitated, the BCI chairman demanded immediate withdrawal of the cases registered against the lawyers & their release.
He said the state bar council has been directed to set up a fact-finding committee to find out whether any lawyer is involved in any misconduct.
However, the BCI has requested the lawyers to maintain peace & not to take recourse to boycott of courts. The BCI said it was making a request to chief minister Bhupesh Baghel to issue appropriate direction to initiate against officials of tehsil office in Raigarh.
Revenue officials across the state went on an agitation alleging that a couple of lawyers had assaulted their staff at Raigarh tehsil office.
